Wednesday 15th May The Port of Warnemunde, for the city of Rostock, Germany
We headed to breakfast this morning and were greeted by a large, hectic mass of people all trying to have breakfast at the same time. What we didn’t realise was that a large number of people were trying to disembark and others were busily having an early breakfast before heading out for excursions. Anyway by 8am the crowds and dissipated and we managed to enjoy our breakfast. We had booked into a walking tour of the coastal resort town and port of Warnemunde. Our guide met us on the dock and took us from there. She was German, softly spoken and although she spoke in English it was with a heavy accent. Most of our group had difficulty both understanding her and hearing her, as we followed her around the very old and historical streets of the seaside resort and port. This area had once been part of East Germany and she had lived in the area since 1975 and so had some interesting tales to tell us. We enjoyed walking through the quaint cobblestone streets with their very old houses but did find it a bit funny when she proudly showed us the very special part of this town, the white, sandy beach. We realised how lucky we are, taking beaches like this for granted back home. Anyway following our 2 and ½ hour walk we decide to do some more exploring on our own, checking out the nearby canals and shopping area. We have had the most amazing weather since arriving in Copenhagen and it has been quite warm, not in the mid-teens as expected. Both Trudy and I have had to purchase some lighter tops to wear and today seemed like a good chance to do this. Arriving back at the ship in the afternoon, we saw that many new passengers were boarding. Once again we had a delicious dinner followed by another excellent show musical show featuring not only singers but acrobats, dancers and jugglers.
